According to macstories.net, the huge delay has been caused:

…due to alleged production issues with the white paint, which — according to many — caused problems with the camera lens, as well as light leaking from the front panel. The final version of the white iPhone, as reported last week, introduces a redesigned proximity sensor that has a different shape and doesn’t sport the grille of small holes seen in Steve Jobs’ on-stage demo last year.

In short, there were much more challenges than Apple’s designers had anticipated. Steve Jobs sees the whole thing as a learning process. It has benefited the company more broadly. “We obviously think about this in a generic way because you have a white iPad,” he said.

Meanwhile, even as people in the United States are waiting with great anticipation for the white iphone, retailers in Belgium and Italy have been found selling these to their customers a day before the release date set by Apple, i.e. April 28, 2011.

Will the white iPhone 4 be available in your country tomorrow?

According to this press release from Apple – White models of iPhone 4 will be available in Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Macau, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, UK and the US, beginning Thursday, April 28 and in many more countries around the world soon.

White iphone vs black iphone

The white iPhone 4 ships with iOS 4.3.1 (build 8G4), released in late March for the GSM iPhone 4. And thats almost about it. There are no hardware changes in the white iphone when compared with its black cousin. Even the death grip network problem stays with the white iphone 4!

Apple iphone 4 with HD recording unveiled

Gadgets

apple

HD

iphone 4 processor

iphone4

iphone4 processor

video calling

Apple today officially unveiled the iphone 4 - yes that's what the fourth generation iphone is called - the iphone 4! And it runs the newly renamed iOS 4 operating system (which the iPad will also use, starting in the fall).

As part of iOS 4, the iPhone 4 gains a bevy of capabilities. One of them–multitasking–feels long overdue, but as with Apple’s long-awaited cut-and-paste feature, the company delivers on the promise of making multitasking work smoothly.

iphone 4 display

With the new iPhone 4, Apple debuts new display dubbed as ‘Retina Display’. This 3.5-inch multi-touch display offers 960×640 pixel resolution at 326 pixels per inch. This means crisper images and more amazing graphics display while playing games. Apart from that, this IPS technology based panel will offer 800:1 contrast ratio that would be four times better than the previous generation iPhone devices.

So, you can comfortably watch 720p HD movies on this 960×640 pixel display with more accurate colors. Apart from that, both front display and back panel would come coated with fingerprint resistant oleophobic coating.

iphone 4 camera

The iPhone 4 brings much-desired camera and video recording advances, as well. The primary camera on the back bumps up from 3 megapixels to 5 megapixels, while retaining the same pixel size (which can further improve image quality). The camera also gains an LED flash, a backlit sensor, and an integrated 5X zoom. The camera now lets you shoot in high-def, at 720p, 30 frames per second; in addition, video gains the tap-to-focus feature already available on the camera.

iphone 4 Battery life

One of the major issues of all the iPhone users has been the battery life and hence, Apple has put a larger battery in the iPhone 4. The lithium-ion rechargeable battery promises to offer up to 7 hours of talk time on 3G networks and 14 hours of talk time on 2G networks. Also, one can listen to music for 40 hours or watch videos for up to 10 hours. The most amazing part is that users can now browser mobile web for up to 10 hours on the iPhone 4, that is as much as offered by new Intel Atom Pine Trail platform based netbooks.

Other iphone 4 specs

Quadband HSDPA/HSUPA

Wi-Fi (802.11n)

Assisted GP

Acceleromete

Digital Compass

Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR

iBooks App as free download

Microsoft’s search engine Bing officially added to search engine options.

Micro SIM just like the ones used in iPad

In the box

iPhone 4

Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic

Dock Connector to USB Cable

USB Power Adapter

Documentation

The phone will roll out on June 24 in the USA, priced at $199 for the 16GB model and $299 for the 32GB model (in white or black).

Nokia’s Answer to Iphone due this year

Gadgets

apple

iphone

nokia

symbian

Nokia remains at work on its answer to the Apple iPhone, codenamed “Tube”. The world’s largest handset maker is starting to talk about its revolutionary gadget, almost 10 months since the iPhone made its debut.

Nokia showed off the Nokia Tube in a presentation slide noticed by Infoworld at a software development conference in California Monday. The Tube, like the iPhone, is a touch-screen phone that can be manipulated using your fingers, and is Nokia’s “first touch device.”

More details about the development have surfaced, days after its existence leaked out at a developer conference. Here’s a rare first look at Nokia’s cool device:

The “Tube” will arrive in the second half of this year, according to Symbian Freak. A Nokia spokesman confirmed the timing to Computerworld but didn’t offer any further details other than the obvious notion that the “Tube” will use Symbian’s S60 operating system. Nokia owns a large stake in Symbian.

According to Symbian Freak, the Tube (real name TBD) will come with:

- 3G,

- Wi-Fi

- GPS chips

- a screen sized between 3 inches and 3.5 inches (similar to Nokia N 73 but wider)

- built-in camera that can also support geotagging of photos

Of course, the above are just a small highlight of the expected features in Nokia’s most advanced offering. There are bound to be many more old and new features. This is a bit of an opportunity lost for Apple, since the company has signed lucrative revenue-sharing deals with its carrier partners that don’t apply if an iPhone is unlocked from its respective network.

At least it does highlight the demand for the iPhone among China’s massive population. In-Stat said that Chinese consumers want smartphones with multimedia features and Web browsing, and the iPhone fills that need nicely. Apparently, they are willing to pay for it: 20 percent of smartphones sold in China last year went for $533 or more.

Apple’s talk breakdown with China Mobile was downplayed by CEO Steve Jobs, who claims there was only ever really one meeting.
