In news that has led to celebrations in most of the world and despair in some, Osama Bin Laden, the dreaded “chief death eater” was killed on Sunday by US forces in the Pakistani town of Abbotabad, which is about 90 Km from the capital Islamabad.
Meanwhile, the popular spoof twitter handle of Lord Voldemort @Lord_Voldemort7 tweeted this:
If you’re wondering about the analogy with the fictional Lord Voldemort from the Harry Potter series, read on:
Similarities between Osama and Voldemort
- Voldemort hated muggles and wanted them killed. Osama hated Kaafirs (non-believers) and wanted them forcefully converted or killed.
- Killing was a fun pastime for both of them, particularly those who were either muggles/kaafirs or those who did not agree with them or refused to support them.
- Both had quite a small number of dedicated followers and sympathisers, ready to die for their respective causes. While Voldemort rallied the death eaters for the cause of pure bloods, Osama Bin Laden rallied them around the concept of Wahabi Islam (the most intolerant version of the religion).
- Voldemort and Osama used terror tactics to scare the majority and try and get them into submission to their respective agendas. Killings and disappearances were the hallmarks of their reign.
- Both Osama and Voldemort were scared of death, though they wouldn’t mind their death eaters/followers dying to save them or even kill their own followers if it suited them.
- Those who live by the gun (wand in Volemort’s case) die by the gun. Both had a violent death proving this adage. Also both were killed on the same day – May 1 (as of the date in UK at the time of their deaths)!

However there were some crucial differences between the two.
Differences between Osama Bin Laden and Lord Voldemort
- Osama glorified martyrdom and death to his followers, selling the USP that if they were killed while battling the kaafirs/doing jehad they would get 72 virgins in heaven. Voldemort never glorified or sold the virtues of death to his followers..heck they were called death eaters, they were supposed to kill and not get killed…unless Voldemort intended it of course.
- Though Voldemort was narrow-minded towards muggles and mixed-bloods, he had no problem with mixing of the sexes and women were treated equally in his ranks. In fact Bellatrix Lestrange was his most powerful and closest to him among the death eaters. Osama on the other hand considered women to be inferior human beings and was intolerant towards their freedom.
There, you got six major similarities and two major differences between Osama Bin laden and Lord Voldemort. That makes the total to seven – the most powerful magical number! Oops, it actually makes them 8 points – I made the eighth point without realizing just like Voldemort made the eighth horcrux!
What do you think of this comparison between Osama Bin Laden and Voldemort? Feel free to add to the list of similarities and differences between the two global terrorists in the comments section.

Urm you forgot one major difference; Voldemort isn’t real and didn’t kill anyone. Osama DID.
Kendra, if you read the title it says “Osama Bin Laden – the real world’s Voldemort” So you see, I’m not claiming that Voldmort killed anyone in the real world. Its just that J.K Rowling’s character and his fetishes were quite a bit similar to those of Osama Bin laden…and often when I used to read of Osama I ended up comparing him with Voldemort. Yeah, maybe I read too much Harry Potter!
Their are just the same LOL
Tops! I thought that right away when I heard… Haha Voldemort.
Wow. That’s fantastic. Well done. I never knew fiction could be this real…i’m kidding.
But that’s by the way. Well, the thing left here is to ask J.K. Rowling if she’s psychic because every other info kept aside, for them to die on the same day (different years-british time) is not only spooky but it is, to me, weirdly fantastic.
Who knows what could be common between harry potter and Barrack Obama.
Voldemort….
lol
pity osama didn’t have magical powers!!
:(
but m happy he’s dead…!!
:D
You know who else died 55 years ago on May 1st? Hitler. Creepy coincidence don’t you think? Also I love the article and the similarities between the two. I also thought of Voldemort when I heard the news.
Indeed Britney, quite freaky!
According to Wikipedia, Hitler died on April 30, but it is eerily close.
It depend on what view you look at it from, Bella lost favor and it went to Snape.
One major thing I’m going to point out.
**SPOILER ALERT: PROCEED OF YOUR OWN VOLITION**
Harry was the 7th horcrux, not the 8th, you idiot.
**END SPOILER**
Otherwise, yes, very…erm, interesting. I’m sure families all over the world who lost friends and loved ones in 9/11 were thoroughly amused by this article. :/
“I will complain coz I’m a troll”
Honestly, take a chill pill. The families of 9/11 victims won’t feel bad on reading this article. It is critical of Osama Bin Laden, and not otherwise.
Obviously this person hasn’t read Harry Potter and was trying to make a witty comment but failed.
Good call on the 8th Horcrux thing.
Wow, I swear, you and I share a brain! These are my thoughs, too, like the exact same thing, plus a few more, I guess… And the whole May 1st thing!!!!!!!
this is an interesting article, but fails to consider that that is why J.k. rowling is so brilliant. These have been the characteristics of all dictators back to Cyrus the great of the Persian empire. It amazes me that this is so shocking to so many people. Absolute;ty power corrupts absolutely. The only solution I see is community empowerment and dismantled state powers. People can only do these terrible things because of the complex systems that hold them in power. Yes Capitalism, communism, even democracy! With out these systems these people could never perpetrate crimes on such a scale!
I see a another differance you forgot, osama has a nose-
voldemort needs one :P
Voldemort died May 2nd bro.
i dont belive that osama died because it is well known that osamas terrorrists said that if osama dies they will blow up something in america and something in france and nothing blown up so far so i think that obama just want people to think that he is sooo great and that they has nothing to worry about
.. Voldemort had a cooler (translation: terrifying) pet, don’tcha think? Nagini might not like the moniker ‘pet’, though- come to think of it. And Bin Laden had WAY, WAY more hair (-:
Umm…Voldemort died May 2nd, I believe. Its Victory Day, and that’s why Bill and Fleur named their first child Victoire (the French Victoria, for victory), because she was born on the anniversary of that day. Yeah, the final battle began on the evening of May 1st, but it lasted until dawn. But, if you would like a connection there, the news made the front page of the papers the morning of May 2nd.
Steve
wikipedia isint always right
so he may not have died on april 30
